LAST NIGHT ON LAST WORD: Jon Tester Will Fight for Freedom for Montanans

Campaign News September 19, 2024

“We don’t want a Montana that’s being changed by Washington, D.C., or somebody from out-of-state running for the United States Senate”

BILLINGS – Third-generation dirt farmer and U.S. Senator Jon Tester joined Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC’s The Last Word last night to talk about protecting freedom and defending public lands in Montana.

Lawrence noted that Jon’s opponent, Tim Sheehy, wants abortion “all to end tomorrow.” Jon made it clear that “this is an issue that is too important to have the government, at any level, or a judge, or a bureaucrat, or a U.S. Senator, telling women what decisions they need to make. This decision should be left up to the woman and her medical professionals.”

Jon emphasized that Montana values are on the line in this election, from reproductive freedom to public lands, Jon knows that Montanans “don’t want a Montana that’s being changed by Washington, D.C., or somebody from out of state running for the United States Senate.”

KEY QUOTES:

JON TESTER: “The bottom line is, this is an issue that is too important to have the government, at any level, or a judge, or a bureaucrat, or a U.S. Senator, telling women what decisions they need to make. This decision should be left up to the woman and her medical professionals. And there are no ifs, ands, or buts about that. We need to have Roe restored so that women have this freedom back. The repealing of Roe was probably the biggest elimination of freedom in my lifetime. And I will tell you I don’t think that’s what Montanans want…none of them want the government telling them how to live their lives.”

JON TESTER: “People are fired up about this. And they’re fired up because we like the old Montana. We don’t want a Montana that’s being changed by Washington, D.C., or somebody from out-of-state running for the United States Senate. We want the Montana values that we grew up with, we want Montana to be the state that we grew up with.”

JON TESTER: “Public lands need to stay in public hands. My opponent has said he wants to transfer it, either to local government or his rich buddies. And the bottom line is if that happens it changes Montana in a way that just devastates our state – both economically and with quality of life.”
