Jon Tester Campaign Launches “Veterans for Tester”
MFT announces co-chairs and more than 150 initial members of veteran-led group supporting Jon
BILLINGS – Montanans for Tester launched “Veterans for Tester,” a group of Montana veterans backing Jon Tester for U.S. Senate. The group, which launched with over 150 veterans from across Montana voicing their support for Jon, was announced at a kick-off event in Kalispell with local leaders John Burgess, a Navy veteran from Somers; Terry Baker, an Army veteran from Kalispell; John Herrington, a Navy veteran and retired astronaut from Marion; William Austin, an Air National Guard veteran from Polson; and Terry Beezley, an Air Force veteran from Eureka. The veteran community represents the finest Montana has to offer, and Jon is incredibly thankful to them for their service and longstanding support.
Veterans for Tester is being launched with a statewide TV and digital ad campaign. The TV ad, “Stand With Jon,” and the digital ad campaign feature Montana veterans sharing their stories about how Jon has fought to hold the VA accountable and deliver the care and benefits they’ve earned.
“I’m not done working to deliver Montana’s veterans every last benefit they’re owed,” said Senator Jon Tester. “These veterans know the challenges facing the VA better than anyone, and I’m honored to stand alongside them, roll up our sleeves, and get to work to make sure every veteran can access the care they deserve.”

With Jon’s long record of accomplishments for Montana veterans, including his PACT Act and VA MISSION Act, Jon will always continue the fight to make sure our country upholds its promise to our veterans. “I support Jon because through the years, he’s worked on more bipartisan bills to help veterans than anybody,” said Mike Lawson, a Marine Corps combat veteran and veterans advocate from Butte who received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. “I call him the workhorse of the Senate. His down to earth values and his ability to communicate on both sides of the aisle are a great benefit not only to veterans, but to all Montanans.”
“I’m proud to back Jon Tester because he continues to show up for Montana veterans,” said Joe Schumacher, an Army veteran from Bozeman who served as a tank gunner in Iraq from 2005-2006. “He works across the aisle on legislation like the PACT Act to make sure veterans receive the care we’ve earned.”
“I am supporting Jon Tester because of his support for Montana and Native Veterans, especially in his work in ensuring health care is adequately provided, including mental health services,” said Chauncey Parker, an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe, a 21-year Army National Guard veteran, and a veteran service provider from the Rocky Boy Reservation. “His work on legislation on like the Commander John Scott Hannon Act has been critical in improving mental health access and suicide prevention for Montana veterans.”
“Jon has always fought for Montana veterans,” said Julie Quilliam, Air Force veteran from Great Falls who served in the nuclear missile fields in Montana. “He’s worked hard to improve care at the VA and to ensure we can access care in our communities. I’m proud to have his back.”
“I back Jon because he works to make sure veterans are cared for after they come home,” said Dean Martin, an Army veteran from Lewistown who served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne from 1968-69.
